Only Good Naturally Aspirated?
The BBK
throttle body works great for a naturally aspirated
application but what happens when you start to cram
boost through it? After installing the throttle body
and testing its performance gains using our dyno, we
noticed performance dropping off rapidly between
pulls. The only variable changed at this point was
the throttle body. |
|
|
|
With
just a little deductive reasoning we decided to
pressure test the system. Within 10 pulls on the
dyno the throttle body had begun to leak severely at
the shaft bearings. We immediately began
brainstorming about what modifications we could do
to remedy this problem. We went through a few
different designs before we got it right. |

If it Doesn’t Work, Replace it
Full
Function replaces the BBK bearings with our very own
FFTec precision machined bronze bushings that have
much tighter tolerances than BBK bearings. The
throttle body benefits from these precision bushings
in two ways: |
 |
|
|
First, the
tighter tolerance of the solid bushing restricts the amount
of throttle shaft flex making the shaft less prone to
breaking. Second, it eliminates boost leakage through the
throttle body shaft bushings. Once these bushings are
installed we align hone the throttle shaft passages with a
custom precision align honing tool. This provides smooth
throttle operation without the fear of binding. |

A Gas Pedal that Feels Right
If you
have ever installed a BBK 75mm throttle body on your
car you already know about the feather gas pedal
that makes driving miserable. The Full Function
edition BBK throttle body (left) features a much
thicker and stronger spring compared to the regular
BBK 75mm throttle body (right). This feature makes
the large throttle body easy to drive on the street. |

|
|
|
And a
Throttle Body that Opens Properly
The Full
Function edition 75mm throttle body also features a
billet aluminum pulley which was designed with an
identical radius as the OEM unit to retain the use
of the throttle cable without worrying about the
throttle body not being fully opened during wide
open throttle conditions. |

|
|
Some Final Touches
The
Throttle body has a standoff precision tig welded to
it!! Included with the Full Function edition
throttle body is a brace with all necessary hardware
for installation. The brace is used to support the
intercooler pipe and to keep the piping from
shifting or popping off under extreme boost
conditions. |
